Exciting training weeks for our young talent: Moritz in the UK

Moritz undertook this stay abroad with our partner company for his additional qualification as a European businessman. What did Moritz expect from Kofferpacken? „The craftsmanship of British clothing has always been world-famous. I was therefore very excited about what I would see and learn at AW Hainsworth & Sons ltd. I approached the experience with an open mind.“

Hainsworth manufactures the wool products locally – an exception rather than the rule in these days of low-cost workbenches in emerging countries. Garments often travel halfway around the world for the individual production steps of wool harvesting, weaving, dyeing and tailoring. Hainsworth, on the other hand, carries out the entire production process locally – and in this way retains control over the quality produced.

What did Moritz actually experience, what impressions did he gain and what did he learn during this time?

„Hainsworth is known for its excellent product quality. But it’s not just the products that are great, the company also works professionally and effectively. I spent the first week with Jenny in Supply Chain Management and the second week with Lizzy, Julie and Colin in Marketing. Such an extensive production with so many production steps… the amount of expertise that goes into it is of course amazing! And to see it all live on site.“

Two interesting weeks in supply chain management and marketing

„Hainsworth has patented many production steps,“ says Moritz. „I have learnt that not only seamless logistics are important in supply chain management, but that a great deal of effort is also put into quality control. Of course, the sooner you recognise an error in the production process, the quicker you can take action. I learnt about the various manufacturing steps in production and was able to track the production status of some products on the PC, including key data that is important in the warehouse. Jenny also showed me projects that she is working on to further optimise the process.“

The second week in Marketing was just as exciting. The long-standing tradition is emphasised in communication, as many customers associate tradition with quality. The high quality of the clothing is due to local production and, like the price, is part of the marketing mix. „My colleagues in marketing showed me how the product benefits and company values are communicated on the newly designed website and in social media and how Hainsworth & Sons credibly sets itself apart from competitors with low-priced products.“

Would Moritz make the trip to the UK again?

„Yes, definitely! I was given a very friendly and open welcome there, gained a lot of insights in a very short time and used the late afternoons to look round some of the old buildings in charming Pudsey.“
