Our spirit
The work of the fire and rescue services is only possible as a strong team. It is based on community, reliability and the willingness to go through fire for each other - sometimes in the truest sense of the word. This team spirit unites us.

At S-GARD, we develop protective clothing that protects you from danger – and have been doing so for more than 130 years. Our high-end protective clothing is always at the cutting edge of technology.
We are not satisfied with the standard.

Because the work of the fire and rescue services is constantly evolving, we are also constantly working on innovations. At the same time, we see ourselves as an all-round partner. Our service also includes maintenance, cleaning and repair.

For a trusting cooperation

The satisfaction of our customers, employees and partners has always been at the centre of our thinking. We bear a high level of responsibility for all parties involved and offer them the transparency that a trusting collaboration requires.

Your opinion is important to us – feel free to give us your feedback!

Environmentally friendly

We are aware that our work also has an impact on the environment. That is why we attach particular importance to environmentally friendly and skin-friendly products and are continuously improving in this respect. Among other things, we use materials that fulfil the high requirements of the OEKO-TEX®Standard 100, a globally standardised testing system for textile products, under which we are listed with the number 06.0.46578.

"The satisfaction of our customers, employees and partners has always been at the centre of our thinking. We offer them the transparency that a trusting collaboration requires."

Foundation

The company founder Hubert Schmitz founded a company in 1887 as a master weaver and produced heavy fabrics from flax for sailcloth, windmill coverings and covered wagons. He worked together with home weavers.

First own production building

Construction of the first production building on Aphovener Straße. With the first mechanical weaving machines.

Takeover by Heinrich Schmitz

His son Heinrich Schmitz took over the company and continued to expand it. The focus shifted to the production of home textiles such as cotton towels and bed linen.

Reconstruction after the Second World War

Before the Second World War, the company was closed down due to a lack of co-operation with the Nazi regime. After the end of the war, the company was rebuilt under Hans Heinrich Schmitz. This time, the focus was on workwear for coal mining made from heavy fabrics. In addition to the weaving mill, a dyeing mill and a clothing production facility were established.

Entry into the fire protection industry

When the current managing directors Hubert and Bruno Schmitz joined the company in the third generation, the focus shifted from mining to a wide range of protective clothing in accordance with EN standards.

First production of protective clothing for firefighters

Due to the increasing requirements for fire-resistant protective clothing, the company recognised new opportunities and entered the firefighting clothing market.

New company location

Due to the successful business development, the company left its original founding location in Heinsberg-Lieck after more than 135 years and moved to a new, modern company building with a logistics centre in Heinsberg-Dremmen.

Hubert Schmitz’s daughter, Lea Wintgens, and Bruno Schmitz’s daughters, Agnes and Johanna Schmitz, work in the company and are the fourth generation to do so.
